 With the rising suicidal rate caused by mental health issues globally, depression really has a say in the lives of teenagers, it is estimated that 35% of teenagers between the ages of 15 to 20 suffer severe depression and anxiety caused by a wide variety of factors.

Parents and guardians need to be aware of this issue and their contribution would go a long way to help reduce depression, Not just teenagers experience depression, but adults also face this. But, in this article, I want to focus on teenagers who are experiencing depression and anxiety, I know what it feels like and what could transpire depression. WHAT IS DEPRESSION
Depression is simply a mental health disorder, whereby an individual experiences a depressed mood accompanied by feeling sad, empty, useless, loss of interest in activities. Major depression could eventually lead to suicidal thoughts. It is caused by a wide variety of factors which we are going to discuss in this article.

It is popularly acclaimed that most teenagers who experience depression are victims of a bully, It is investigated that when teens are occasionally harmed or intimated by bullies, they are likely to experience severe depression.

2. DRUG ABUSE:
This is very common among young teens, addiction to drugs to a great extent can cause mental health disorders, which would likely lead to depression and suicide.

3. DEATH OF A LOVED ONE:
This is a very common cause of depression in young teenagers, the sudden demise of a loved one could cause depression.

4. EMOTIONAL DISTRESS:
This is also a very common cause of depression, emotional trauma could lead to depression, often caused by very bad past experiences, Maybe heartbreak, sexual abuse, insult, etc.

5. PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:
The physical appearance of an individual could lead to depression. For instance, if a man is frequently mocked, basically because he is too thin or fat, This would reduce his self-esteem and would eventually lead to depression.

6. POVERTY:
The financial instability of an individual could lead to depression because without money you can't cater to your needs, and the inability to meet important needs could eventually lead to a feeling of lack of self-worth.

7. FAILURE:
This is the most popular cause of depression amongst teenagers, failure to accomplish objectives, failure of a business plan, failure in an important examination, etc. could lead to emotional distress which is the prime cause of severe depression.


HOW TO CONQUER DEPRESSION
Depression will be conquered if take effective action against it and that's why I have provided you with effective guidelines listed below;

1. MOTIVATION:
If you are feeling depressed, then I will advise you to read motivational stories, books, quotes, music, etc. It would help in improving your mood and self-confidence. 2. TALK TO SOMEONE:
There is a popular saying which says "a problem shared is a problem solved " and it has proven very effective in solving problems. You should discuss your problems with a very close friend, teacher, guardian, or even your parents they would surely assist you in different aspects to conquer depression.

3. ACCEPT WHO YOU ARE:
You as a teenager should fully accept who you are irrespective of other people's opinions. This would shun potential bullies who might want to pick on you because by showing them (bullies) that you don't care about their opinions, they will understand that you are full of confidence, and the urge to bully or insult you would reduce and eventually stop.

4. AVOID ADDICTION:
Addiction could damage the image of a young teenager, being addicted to bad things could reduce your confidence and that's where depression steps in, you should find effective ways to stop addiction, especially to drugs. 5. AVOID IDLENESS:
There is a popular saying that states that " An idle mind is the Devil's workshop" yes and it has been proven true, studies have shown that people who are always idle are more likely to experience low self-confidence thereby leading to depression. It is also known that most negative menaces caused in society are a result of idleness.

6. SEEK MEDICAL HELP:
I will advise you to see a psychiatrist if all this didn't help, psychiatrists are trained to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health disorders, and they would help to a great extent by prescribing medications such as antidepressants which would also help to conquer depression.
